Privacy notice

How Prepspire handles your information on our website, in the Ask Prepspire chat, in the FAQ and when you try a free taster course.

Who we are

Prepspire runs online courses and practice tools for English-language exams and skills. This notice applies to prepspire.com and is written in plain English. If anything is unclear, or you want to ask about your information, please use our Contact page.

Ask Prepspire, our chat assistant

Ask Prepspire is an AI assistant that answers questions using our FAQ and help pages. It cannot see your account, grades or marking, and its answers can sometimes be wrong.

When you open the chat and send a message, we process:

  • the text you type;
  • the address of the page you are on;
  • technical details that any website service receives, such as your IP address and browser type.

The chat is provided by Tiny Talk, which runs its service from servers in the European Union. To write a reply, Tiny Talk sends your message, together with the parts of our FAQ that match it, to OpenAI, whose systems are typically in the United States. Your browser loads the chat from Tiny Talk when a page opens, but your messages are sent only when you send one.

We can see conversations in the chat dashboard and may read them to improve our answers and to keep the service safe. Please do not type passwords, card details, ID numbers or other sensitive information into the chat. For help with your account or your marking, use our Contact page.

Study Helper for enrolled students

If you are signed in to our learning platform at lms.prepspire.com, many course pages show a button called "Need help? How do I approach this task?". It opens the Prepspire Study Helper, an AI assistant that explains how to find your way around a course and how to approach a task, using our course instructions and help guides. It does not give answers to tests, mock exams or quizzes, does not write your assignments, and cannot see your grades, progress or marking. Its answers can sometimes be wrong. The button is not shown inside tests, games and speaking recorders.

It works the same way as Ask Prepspire: the text you type and the address of the page you are on go to Tiny Talk, and your message with the matching help text goes to OpenAI to write a reply. When one of these course pages opens, your browser also loads the chat software from Tiny Talk. Please do not type passwords, card details, ID numbers or other sensitive information. For help with your account or marking, use our Contact page.

FAQ search

The search box on our FAQ page works inside your browser. What you type there is not sent to us and is not saved.

Free taster courses and samples

  • Free samples need no account.
  • Free taster courses run on our course platform, OnlineCourseHost. To save your progress you create a free account with your email address. You can also enter your email address on our Free Taster Courses page: we pass it to the platform, which creates your account and emails you your sign-in details.
  • Joining our newsletter is optional. The tick box is empty by default. If you tick it, we keep your email address and the page you signed up from so that we can send you the newsletter, using our form provider, Netlify. You can ask us to remove you at any time.
  • To stop misuse, our sign-up form keeps technical records, such as your email address and IP address, to limit repeated requests.

Contact form and student accounts

If you use our Contact form we receive the name, email address and message you enter, and we keep them so that we can reply and keep a record of your enquiry.

If you are enrolled in a course, your learning account runs on our learning platform at lms.prepspire.com, where we record your sign-in details, your progress and the work you submit. Some courses give AI feedback on writing or speaking: your submission is then processed by an AI service to produce that feedback.

Cookies and similar storage

The site and our service providers may use cookies and similar browser storage that are needed for things like signing in, the shopping cart and the chat. You can clear or block them in your browser settings, but parts of the site may then stop working.

Who else receives your information

We use service providers to run the features above: Tiny Talk and OpenAI (the Ask Prepspire chat and the Study Helper), OnlineCourseHost (free taster courses), Netlify (sign-up and newsletter forms), and our website and learning-platform hosts. Each has its own privacy policy, linked above where we first mention it. These providers may process information outside your own country.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop sending you the newsletter, through our Contact page. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
